Komisari (the dev) posts regularly here in the comments. It has been stated multiple times that a very large update is on it's way, but no ETA has yet been announced to my knowledge. It seems that as a one person dev team, Komisari would rather put out one massive update than a ton of small updates, and it is taking quite a while to finish the next version. Personally, I am perfectly willing to wait for a quality update, rather than get one or two events every week or two.
