On your last comment "(during the run multiple tiles got a question mark yet only the smileys hit changed anything)". There is a known bug where sometimes two question marks appear at the same time each time, instead of one. If this happens, finishing the level (by winning or losing) usually solves it. Otherwise, restart the game.
