That is quite fascinating game. I'm not sure why but I find it intriguing.
It's a bit hard to judge and rate because you said yourself you had trouble and almost couldn't finish it and stuff like the tutorial is missing, but I like the overall idea of the game.
The levels or the art style in general look really nice, although the wood theme is a bit hard to get. Maybe if the trees would look more like they were made out of wooden planks and painted or something like this it would work better.
I played it with a gamepad and the controls were fine. The character was a bit hard to control, it even shot me out of the are when hitting a rock at the wrong angle, but I had no problem running around and chopping every single tree down. The Interface although was a bit confusing. Maybe it's because there is no progress in unlocking stuff. You see a huge inventory right from the start so it's a lot to take in.
What I really like is that you simulated nature meaning the trees and bushes slowly grow and that there is persistence. I really expected to have to do everything again after closing the game and was surprised that everything was saves. Nice!
I think I unlocked all levels and played them all a bit, but I did not manage to collect all resources yet to unlock anything in the tech tree, not sure what awaits me :)
What I enjoyed was the zen like nature of the game. Ok, I can drown, but there are no enemies, at least I didn't see any, and it's just me and my axe and a lot of stuff to chop.
If you decide to finish and polish it a bit after the jam is over I would totally check it out again.
Well done!
