I really liked this concept! It brings me back to those point-n-click horror games. It mostly reminds me of when I used to have my janky computer and the graphics would look exactly like this! I loved how when you clicked on the map marker it gives you a description of the location only to find some hidden meaning or corrupted data. I don't know something with technology failing us and giving us mixed signals, error pop-ups, and distorted text gives me the creeps!
Gameplay-wise, it is pretty simple you go to the location, read the text, gather explore orbs and move on. The ambient music feels like we are running an ancient computer, you know the ones that make that brrr sound when it's working so hard to compute the graphics.
Now my theory is that something happened, most likely a plane crash in the forest. I believe that we are pilot that crashed the plane because near the end the mapfriend says things like "I'm just the co-pilot," and "it should have been you." I feel like the pilot is looking up information on the aftermath and stumbled upon this sentient map finder to make him relive his past. Either way it was a fun playthrough!
