Can you hypnotize a character by briefly hitting him with the laser of a gun?

At the doorway, when they are hypnotized, the game progresses and they move to the living room.

After this, if I long press and hold the gun's laser on the character, the menu does not appear?

The menu is not shown in the event scene before and after the sex starts.

Yeah I get a similar issue, sometimes I'm struggling to aim wherever I need to aim and the menu doesn't pop up even after shooting several times.
