It depends on the kind of games you want to make, and the tools you use. All game development forums I'm aware of enable people to form teams. E.g. in your case the RPG Maker forums might be a good place to look (even though you're using a custom engine). As for Itch.io being better than specialized venues, well, what am I supposed to answer? ;)
