On desktop this should not be a problem. You're probably playing on mobile if it's forcing you to start over.

Unfortunately, accessing save files on android isn't simple. It depends on your device and may even require root access. Normally the save files should be at this location:

sd:/Android/data/[pervader]/files/saves/

If you've lost progress, it probably means your your system or your windows user settings have been modified in some way. All of your save files should be found at this location

C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\Pervader

and they should persist in between updates, even if you delete the game folder.
