Probably you were playing at too wide of a resolution. Play it at a 4:3 resolution, or in windowed mode and adjust the window size until you can see the active bottom row.
As for 7-Zip files: you can get 7-Zip itself for free, but personally I prefer Bandizip. And 7z archives can get much smaller than zip (though in this case, it’s the difference between 20 and 25 MB). No idea how you’d “convert” 7z to zip without decompressing it from 7z…
