As the FAQ says itch gets stable releases (builds that are enjoyable to play), i've been working on a story update for a while and it's huge. Everyone who's purchased so far gets updates. It just might take longer than patreon but only cause those builds are broken or have many issues.
If you want a game that works and has actual new content, please wait a little longer. Most patreon updates aren't really game content.
