SWORD DREAM - A backronym for Second Wave Of Roleplaying Design - DIY Rules Everything Around Me, SWORD DREAM, or *DREAM for short, is a term and social media hashtag for a movement of designing role-playing games (RPGs) with a focus on tolerance, accessibility, and diversity.
While there is no official standard, participants have adopted the following principles:
- Stands against hate & prejudice in all forms.
- Works to be radically inclusive.
- Encourages the use of sensible tools for communication and consent.
- Opposes harassment and strives for non-toxic discourse.
- Values creators & their work.
- Values experimentation in game design & worldbuilding.
- Isn't defined by, but is interested in: anti-canons, emergent story, generative worlds, kitbashing, non-violent play options, and more.
- There is no one *DREAM. Anyone who commits to these principles is *DREAMing .
Simply put my Sworddream was a Grimdark RPG with the crypto-fascist elements stripped and replaced with Gray Vs Grey morality. "Grimdark Swordream" is tongue-in-cheek, and a way to discourage fascists from attempting to co-opt the game.
