Just by using the content released so far you should know that Patrice IS a strong and confident character, that he hates having this one weakness holding him back and desires change. You're following a stereotype imo, anyway, Patrice was always meant to be designed this way and we're not going to go back on our decision.

Patrice has showed the extroverted jock personality you were referring to in situations unrelated to occultism and ghosts. God forbid people can have unresolved traumas.

I like to treat characters as real people, which means giving them depth and not stopping at appearances alone. To me it doesn't matter what is the first impression upon looking at him, you're ultimately reading a story so that's the point to learn and see him grow to face his fears.

Also what about the newer designs being muscular? Ryan is big chub, Blake is average leaning into round and Patrice is muscle. I feel like we see things differently.
