As I have mentioned in the details of the game this was for a school project and I kinda ran out of time so that explains the lack of jumpscares but don't worry there will be more of them in the next updates. The VHS option is just temporary fix for now and I'll implement an option that will stay on for the whole game. Since you're interested be tuned for the Part 2 of this game!
