That was cute! But there are parts of the story that could use a iittle more subtlety, particularly in the romance department. I know the "platonic gift" thing was basically a bait and switch, but even keeping the gay tones in mind their relationship really jumped from point A to point B super suddenly. In addition to "friend anniversary" being an odd setup, gay people don't typically go "oh haha we've been nothing but friends for so long let me talk about how good friends we are" and then suddenly "oh let's be super gay nvm". It was still a wholesome story, tho it could probably have more believability and more of an impact with some consulting from more LGBT people themselves and their relationships.
