I thought Purgatory fit the liminal theme pretty well overall and the aesthetic of the game supported it quite well. The simple and cutesy art style made the unsettling parts more powerful to me. I also really liked the careful placement of objects and interactions in the game. Nothing seemed to be very carelessly placed around each area and everything seemed to have some sort of purpose. I felt more engaged with this sort of play style as it helped move the game faster along.  Lastly, I definitely liked the various environment transitions in the game. There was definitely a variety of environments that I enjoyed such as the clown room :)

A couple things I would note that I particularly had trouble with was the control scheme and certain UI interactions. As far as controls, I was initially confused why pressing 'E' would open doors and latches and why clicking happened to be picking up items. I thought at first that the 'E' key dealt universally with anything intractable while exploring. Additionally, a UI interaction that I was a bit frustrated on was entering the code to the keypad. The numbers don't show up as you enter them, so if I misclick a number while entering the password, I couldn't tell. This happened to me and when I tried to go back to check the pass code, I found that I was stuck in the room and could not backtrack. Therefore, I had to restart the game.

Thanks for the feedback on the UI and thanks for playing the game!

Hi there! You messaged me a weekish ago about writing music for a game jam. I've been trying to reach you on reddit but I haven't heard back so I thought I would take this route. Please email me at lifepod19music@gmail.com if you still need my help.
