As someone who's parent works a job they dislike to make ends meet for us, as a kid I decided to turn my hobby playing games into a profession, so I wouldn't have to choose.
I started preparing myself from a young age. But now that I am actually in the industry, I've realized I see it as work often more than a passion. There are times I fear that I might even lose the passion of games I had as a child that led me to decide to combine this hobby with my career for income security.
And yet I understand that it really is a privilege to be in the position I am in.
I guess the thing here is that the "make your hobby your job", mentality is not as simple and straightforward as people are typically led to believe.
