Good concept. Maybe I would just change the owner dynamics so they pass by once in a while and goes to the needed plants instead of passing one by one or I would keep the owner animation but make the selection turn based, so when the owner leaves you have a limited time to pick what each plant needs, as the plants already have different timers and use it in a way the user is more aware of the passage of time and to adjust the controls. And you can even expand the concept by adding different levels (you could present each one as a different day, each one with a different difficulty by the amount of plants and maybe different necessities for specific plants could be added).
