I figured it was probably something like that, but retrofitting to the v2 gave me a bomb launcher with v2 base stats but v1 stat increases per level, meaning it didn't stay useful for very long.
Missile launchers don't seem to have this problem, so I unlocked those in the web version and then switched to linux desktop build and it's working great!
