Wow, this is simultaneously tempting and truly disconcerting. A seemingly all-powerful key to the proverbial city (the city being reality), at the cost of your life—I wonder how long it'll take players to ignore all the bad vibes (and literal blood on their hands) and just have a ball with this thing 🙈

YES, exactly! I'm not a fan of dark stuff generally, but I had this general idea and as I was creating it, it just kinda went that direction... Normally I'm all rainbows and sparkles 🤣 Like if I were to use this in a game myself, I'd just say that the power drain exhausts you or maybe makes you feel more addicted to the device, rather than physically harming you, but I didn't want to limit it for the sake of people who would want to take it in that direction.
