He's actually not wrong... it doesn't fix the problem it merely slaps a temporary band-aid on it in the form of resetting its progress.
My game is lagging. If I delete my save, my save stops lagging. I count that as a fix. The problem is with the game though so the problem returns.
It doesn't FIX the problem. It causes it to go away TEMPORARILY. You've already admitted the issue returns over time. A fix is permanent, what you're using is a band-aid solution.
