Follow the creator on here and you can follow along when there are updates - and read the Dev Diary as well as looking at the release schedule so far if you want a rough idea of the game's progress.
As for keeping progress, just make sure when you install a new version of the game that you keep your "saves" folder, which is in the "game" folder in the game's installation.
