Try switching video renderer.

  • Press Shift+G
  • From the "Graphics Acceleration" menu that appears, choose the renderer to use.
  • Choose "Quit", then restart.

Unfortunately, this didn't help much. I did notice a very slight increase in performance, but the game still takes up way too much of my CPU, thankyou for the suggestion though.

 I'll just have to put this game on hold till I have a better computer.
