The "circumstances" leading to full-game removal were
1: Game sold well on Itch.
2: Dev realized he was losing Patreon income by actually selling the game he promised to sell. 
3: Dev added something to the game that made itch staff go "Uh... no."
4: Still no one's buying it on Steam and Patreon, but now he's got a scapegoat.

The game is too good to be given away for free or under a name-your-price model. I bought it on Steam. Worth every penny. I don't care if what you said is true. The dev deserves to make all the money on Leap of Faith.
