Ah Richmond has arrived!
I must say that the rationale to Decker's design has grown on me quite a bit (but I already like retro computing stuff, and particularly ancient mac OS).  Deckers only dependency is a sliver of SDL framework so it should be trivial to compile it from make file even on BeOS (Richmond likes that). With a little bit of jumping through hoops you can actually get some cool stuff happening. There is color, but only palettes of 16 color (16 at a time, editable and scriptable so you can use it for some pseudo animations), or, if I understand correctly, 256 shades of grey . You could use it to make 'standalone apps' and you can build custom widgets:
