Cool game! The mechanics were pretty well balanced, although I could have used a bit more research stuff, because it seemed like I could never get those cards for some reason. Could have just been luck, though.
Just barely escaped! I only realized potential strats on the second playthrough, but that's kind of cool!

It's not just you, research cards are actually the rarest just because there are less of them... The other ideas for research cards we had (stuff like satellites that wouldn't take up space on the planet or even a moon!) turned out to be a little too hard to implement within the time.
