The game just throws me in with no introduction or time to get my bearings. I don't know the controls and I pressed every button on my keyboard. Maybe it needs a controller?
Yes, a controller is required, as stated in the game's page. I'm sorry there isn't a better introduction to the game. Unfortunately I was running out of time and didn't manage to polish the game better. I will certainly add it in the future, however!
