The performance of the Linux version fluctuates from okay-ish to unplayable to literally not starting and back, even on Threadripper setup with 64gigs of RAM. So I would say this is not a Steam Deck issue.
I effectively just gave up. But if you find a way I would be interested too. Did you try running the windows version via Proton?
