I think what they mean is, in the itch.io app, even though they, and myself, have purchased the latest version, 0.55, it's still only showing 0.47 as available download. Does that mean 0.55 is only able to be downloaded out of itch.io app? No dramas if the case, but would be nice to have further updates be accessed via the itch.io app. :)

Same thing happened to me, you only get the most recent update to the game if you have paid the full price for the game, otherwise you need to wait for the newest version to release to the public, like everyone else.
I made the same mistake, which I didn't do it in the first place and get tricked like that.
