The critical thinking part is where i remind everyone of rights to intellectual property,  which is the basis for why these things get taken down. Believe me, i love to see things like this fully realized, but until Nintendo welcomes these independent developers with open arms instead of a cease and desist, we will continue to see these masterpieces pulled from public view. That law is enforced strictly because, the moment it isnt, a precedent is set for Nintendo to be "ok" with their characters' names and likenesses into free public domain which will result in Nintendo losing rights to those characters. Nintendo seems so evil in our eyes because of this, but they are just protecting their babies.

Laws aren't necessarily rights. You learn this when you go to school. IP isn't a "baby". That's idiotic. IP laws are unjust at their core. It's art, just comodified in the most predatory way imaginable. Please don't defend awful shit and try and pass that off as critical thinking. Art has been around since before our species was differentiated from other apes. Predatory IP laws have not. One is a good thing. The other feeds greed and stifles creativity. Please read a book that does not require crayons. This is not a hard concept to grasp.

And remember, boots are for feet, not for eat.
