It shouldn't ask you to rebuy it, and I don't know why it is. Try Weird Kenku's idea and let me know how it goes. This is the only time I've ever added a new version and had it block anybody from updating, so maybe itch has changed something.
I think they did since that's what I had to do to get the updated version, something on itch is making it behave like an entirely new product.
