I like the idea of slowly building up risk until you roll to see how something goes, definitely. Perhaps the tension of just having those "glitch" dice sitting there until you need to rely on that component is enough:

When you fire your missiles (for instance), roll your missiles ability (in one color of dice) and the glitch dice (in another color) on your missile launcher. You get the highest die for your result: 1-3 / 4-5 / 6, as in Blades, because why not? Then, if the highest die is a glitch die, the component fails.

Oh I like that! Perhaps the Glitch dice are actually a different size of dice? Component dice are D6s, minor glitch dice are D3s or 4s, and major glitch dice are D8s or 10s?
