I enjoyed the the game, the core concept is fine, but left with mixed feelings, because dev killed the replayability by implementing modificators that simply do not work with game mechanics.

One of the levels's gimmick is random status effect where you need to mash precisily 20 times. While possible at default speed, have fun counting your clicks at higher speed options.

My biggest issue is with the common in rythm games "hidden" mod, that forces you to relay on the sound alone. The problem is that the notes do not start the moment you are given the control, so you have to start a song guessing when you can click, or memorize the start of the level down to a milisecond. Not a big deal in itself, but a huge issue when combined with sudden death mode.

Game itself is fine for one playthrough, it is free so download it without hesitation for about 10-15 minutes of gameplay, but do not even try to 100% this game. One of the achievements I saw in game requires beating a level with all modifiers active, and precision (for reasons mentioned above) it requires would be better spent becoming proffesional guitar hero streamer or something. This aspect was clearly not playtested by the developer, so don't torture yourself.

Thanks for your review, lot of the points you mentionned are definitly right but the deadline of the jam this was submitted for (NSFW MiniJam, 1 week long) did that there was only that much we could fix

If I can still give a bit of advice related to the modifiers:

  • For the mash one, note are only considered as failed if you are in their range so don’t be afraid to mash as fast as you can, this is a bit of a “bug exploit” but it’s also possible to mash using many keys (like using both K and L)
  • For the hidden, you still see the note when it come close to the hit area, you can use that to time yourself at the start of the song

These should help you clearing the “all modifiers” achievement, I personally did it in the level 2, good luck if you decide to try again :)

For the record, loved the game, understand it is jam submission,  I simply download/buy every rhythm game I see and just wanted to share my polite complaints in case you decide to turn it into full scale project (monetized of course).

Also I stand by my point that hidden mod is frustratingly unfair because of notes not synced with countdown and I will die on this hill.

That was great feedback! As Zirk said we didnt have the time (A week to do all the art, code and music was barely enough TuT ) to improve it, but if we ever decide to polish this idea we will definetely take those points into account

Happy you enjoyed the game and thanks for the feedback and comment!
