no, blitzbasic was my first game engine, and its really good for beginner. of course, you should have some practice in programming and know what is a if-statement or a foor-loop. but i had 2013 a good blitzbasic-book. but the begin was hard, for my first game i needed one year. now i am almost every week participating in the trijam, 3-hours-jam. with the malware-warning i have it with my pure-basic-games, too

That is great improvement actually, from one year to every week, I bet you can even learn other engines like Unity, Unreal, Godot or Gamemaker, they could be a good idea if you want to improve even more or make something commercial one day.
Just some ideas that might be useful to you :)
