I believe you need to get past the wall of crystals that are outside, above the construction site. Then defeat the rock monster which removes a wall that's past the monster, which leads to a series of fights against more rock monsters. Roughly each rock monster defeated unlocks the next room in the little maze that'll lead you to the farm and Beth's husband.
