Me: "Oh no, is this another platformer with hidden platforms and obstacles?"
Game: "No, this is a race game. Well actually it's a platformer, but still no."
Me: "But do I get sent all the way back to the beginning of the game, when I die?"
Game: "What no? That would be terrible game design!"
Me: "Okay, finally a decent platformer."
All joking aside, this has been the best platformer I've played so far. I've rated around 115 games at the moment and I would say about 40% has been platformers. So well done. However, I do have some feedback.
Let's start with the good. This jam there have been two types of games: games that fit the theme and games that were fun; somehow this game is both. This is because the lying in your game doesn't ruin the user experience. The lies are consistent, which kinda means there not really lies anymore (but rules). Shit, I guess this game doesn't fit the theme that well after all ;-).
The art is also great and the music is pretty good as well. It's also a nice touch that you can restart by pressing any key, when you're in the restart menu. Jump with space or W is also nice. The flame jump was also pretty cool.
Now onto the things that can be improved, starting with an obvious one. There is no way to tell the real exits and the fake exits apart. This means that it's just trial and error, rather than skill. The real exit is also a bit hard to find in level 2. However, in level 4 and 5 you guys went nuts. There are so many exits it's incredible that I picked the correct ones at the first or second try. Don't make the player feel like there is no end to your madness of fake exits.
Overall pretty nice and I would like to play more levels, as long as they're not filled with dozens of exits.
