my gpu is old but i run some games i have gtx1080 by the way the game run smooth i had no problem ... only overheating
My cousin had a laptop that would get so hot he had to set it on a cooking sheet to use it. If your setup is giving you black screen after 5 minutes I would look into some kind of cooling system, or some other way to keep it ventilated maybe.
