Over the past year and a half I have experimented with quite a lot of projects in LE. Some hit, some failed but I always came out of the experience with something. As I got more and more comfortable with LE and and learned it's deepest secrets I moved on to gamejams on itchio.  After a solid year of game jamming I came out of that with even more compiled code that I made sure was interchangeable throughout projects.  That leads me to where I'm at today,  in the middle of my first real/serious game title in over 5 years.

The name is yet to be decided but for now I'm going with the call-sign 'Twisted Science', whereas my wife is calling it 'Twisted State', so if you see either of those names in my upcoming articles then you will know it's the same game.  

The game revolves around a group of scientist experimenting on stuff they probably shouldn't be touching.  The outcome; a plague of weird creatures being born and ravishing the cities around the world.  A handful of activists formed a group to fight back, this is where you come in.

A little about the game -

  • Tower defense elements including traditional and third person action modes.
  • Destructible environments, nearly everything on the map is interactable in some way.
  • Multi-verse play! flip the screen at anytime to enter an alternate reality where the game is a anew.
  • Earn coin, upgrade tokens and experience as you march through the single-player campaign.
  • Use your collections to develop your Hero into a fighting machine as you defend the cities against invaders.
  • Code system, daily, weekly and yearly rewards given just for playing the game
  • Unlock DLC's, new characters and weekly challenge maps simply by entering a given code into the console.
  • Save points allow you to pickup from where ever you stopped previously.
  • Planned MOD support for creating custom Challenge Stages completely isolated from the campaign.

If you've ever enjoyed a good tower defense game or perhaps a fast paced third person shooter game or even a character building RPG game then you are in for a special treat! Twisted State features elements from all three of the mentioned genres. If you've never played any of the three genres then better yet as you'll get to experience the carefully placed game elements from a new standpoint.

I have carefully developed this game with fun in mind. Many different elements were put in and taken out because I felt they didn't meet the 'Fun Factor' I was looking for in this game. What has remained is pure entertainment, you'll enjoy blasting invaders, building your character and exploring new areas as you dive deeper into the campaign. The movement system, the advancement system the combat system - all feels fluent and is very satisfying to play.

I paid extra special attention to the sound environment. Every action, every invader, every prop has it's own distinct sound. When brought together the game provides a rewarding FX experience.

This visuals system has been carefully laid out to provide maximum enjoyment. A friendly toon-like atmosphere that is configurable to each and every players liking. With over 12 post effect shaders you can adjust the final screen rendering to your own liking.

Weather system, day, night and random thunderstorms. If it rains to much the streets become flooded in which case a new playstyle is introduced. Surfboarding!

This is just a few of the features you'll find in Twisted State, as I mentioned I have taken my time developing this game to provide the very best experience a player can have while playing a game. If I was to list each and every gameplay element, graphic feature or environmental feature this game offers we'd be reading this entry for days.

With all that said and done, sit back and enjoy a few mins of stress-testing gameplay.

Butler docs state this:

  • game_id: (numeric) identifier of the game (find it in Edit game)

But I havent been able to locate any such ID in my game edit settings.

Thanks for the suggestions.   I too feel the camera shake is to overwhelming.  

Boss fight was challenging :) Nice game overall.

I'll play and rate it for ya, I know how ya feel.  Only a couple rates on my as well and many many hours put into it. :)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed.  You are correct, if you haven't built up your gun lvl to around 6 or more by lvl 13 then it gets awful hard to keep them off the mainframe unless you get lucky and a couple bullet hell's spawn.  :)

Is BulletFury 2D only? If so, can  we expect 3D in the future?

Hey that was pretty cool, I love the art work.

The game is based off computer viruses attacking a mainframe, the complaint you saw was the boss spawning in the game, he is a virus lol. But a fake game virus in 3d form. :)

Tower defense playstyle with 1000's of projectiles and hyper paced non stop gun blasting play action. Featuring Bullet Hell Mode ! I packed so many bullets into the game that this mode nearly engulfs the entire screen. :)

Same, homebrew system here but Im' going 3D so I had to come up with my own system.

Thank for the comment,  yes, the crash in deep waters was fixed along with other control issues but the deadline caught me/ May 29th for an update! hehe.,.   Once more, appreciate the comments.  Have a good day.

Had some fun with it, controls were quite hard to handle though.

The voice overs are top  notch, overall I had fun with this game. Definitely an interest holder. 

I liked the overall pace of the game, the visual were pleasing and fit the games flow perfectly.

Outstanding!  That's about the time I started coding/designing except my stuff didn't look near hat good..  Congrats. :)

Jacqueline, a normal everyday, 17-year girl, in high-school, popular, pretty,  made good grades and for the most part was never in trouble her whole life. But that was about to change. . . 
Enter Bryan, 23 year old male, hanging out at the high school parking lot catches Jacqueline's eye and proceeds to work his way into her life.   Little does Jacqueline know, Bryan is the areas lead drug pusher, a new drug has hit the streets called 'Cloud',  it's addictive level ten times stronger than morphine.
You will play as either Jacqueline's older sister or bigger brother as you comb the sewers, subways and other lowly areas of New York City in search of clues and ultimately to retrieve your baby sister from the clutches of a drug infested, sin craving community. 
You'll have to deal with murders, rapists , escaped convicts, drug addicts, pimps and more before reaching your goal.

BugFixes:
- Fixed problem with the algorithm that controls random tile generation, it was preventing more complex designs from materialzing.
- Player model no longer able to pass through pillers in the larger rooms.
- No more floating grass on the stair cases
- Chests will no longer spawn on top of spike plates.
- Mobs will no longer spawn on top of chests or spike plates
- Rewrote the entire movement system, no longer will the player controller 'get lost'
- Reworked the staircase logic, you should no longer headback upstairs once reaching the bottom.
- Player should no longer walk through some doors, gates and chests.
- Fixed dead-ends dropping off into space. They now properly display an impassable brick wall. 

Additions:
- Ability to select Extreme, Large, Normal, Small dungeon creations on startup. ( Note: Extreme maps take additional time to populate ).
- Added additional tile plates to dungeon set 1. Beautification has begun!
- Dungeon Overhead Map added, Press [M]ap to display the map overhead.
- Markers for Starting chamber, Player, POI's, Merchant and Quest givers added
- Added tons of new random generators. Walls, decorartion, floor debris, 3d Sound boxes just to name a few.
- Added camera gimbal look while in 1st person mode ( slight tilt to mouse position angles )
- Added Cave plates to the randomizer ( cave sections attached to dungeon corridors ).
- Re-worked the entire lighting system from ground up, shadows are more defined and crisp.
- Added 'fog adjusters' - emitters that control the fog values for near and far effects.
- Added 3D Sound boxes, easy to add a dimensional sound anywhere.
- Added 3 theme selections to the map generation screen,  Rustic, Mossey, Modern - each theme features it's own creation attributes.
- You can now move the mouse to the far left, right up or down position and click to move in that direction.
- Player can select male or female at map creation.  ( cosmetic only / different animations )
- Three main character types playable, Mike, Roxann, Lisa.
- Mummies, zombies and skeletons ripped out, replaced with story-line characters.
- No more swords, replaced with bats.
- Added command console, can send commands to the script processor. ( future feature: talk to NPC's ) 
- New camera system, out with the old and in with the new. Oribital/shoulder camera implemented.
- Added new combat animations, each level of swing has approx. 3 random swing animations.
- Added character voice interactions on some scenarios.
- Added 'Nameplates' to mobs, Group and sub name ( if applied )

For Fun Additions: ( these additions are for fun, cosemtic and/or storyline involvement ).
- Added Snakes, Turn a corner in the dark and you may run into a snake.
- Added Rats, nasty vermin that like to dwell and run about the underground dungeon.
- Added feces and sick mode. If in certain areas to long the player character will become nauseated, and show it.
- Added suprise points, passing random spots will trigger a suprise point.  You'll have to see for yourself!
- Added some easter eggs '/' commands, just don't fall in love with Roxana after discovering them.
- Added interaction commands, /dance1, /dance2, /dance3.
- If characters are unlocked, /play_roxann, /play_lisa and /play_mike are available.

Inside the install folder there is oalinst.exe  which is the open al sound drivers.  they should had been installed with the installer. But none the less,  you can either run the oalinst.exe from the installed folder or grab them here. https://www.openal.org/downloads/

Sorry for the inconvenience.  Those driver installations are the reason I went with an Installer to begin with. :)

Thanks for the tip, in the future I'll limit my distributions to portables only.
