I've been thinking for awhile on this. I think I have a pretty cool idea! I've wanted to make a museum type/ learning game showcasing women coders and game developers. A game where women like Dona Bailey (Centipede/Atari), Margaret Hamilton (NASA), Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (Computer Scientist, Navy), and Ada Lovelace (first programmer), could be put on display to inspire other girls. I'm leaving out ALOT of names here!
I originally wanted to do this as a VR experience. Then I thought maybe putting together a small team and doing it in 2D would be a better idea since it would make it much more accessible to the people I want it to reach. I think this jam was what really made me solidify the decision. It gives me a chance to work on a team (something I've rarely done), and help other devs (which is a passion of mine) all while putting this idea into existence and making it open for everyone. It's all win/win!
I'm a VR developer (prior mobile game dev) who mainly works in Unity but I have exp in other engines. I'm proficient in Construct 2 & 3, RPG Maker MV, and of course Unity. I hold licenses to these engines as well.
Over the last few years, I've enjoyed making tutorials for new indie devs so don't worry if you have zero experience! This could be a great opportunity for us to teach, learn, and pay homage to those who came before us. So if you're looking to learn more about game dev, get inspired by early female coders, polish up your skills, ready for a job in the industry, or just have fun making games and art... why not join me? I think we can make something really cool, inspiring, and educational!
