Hey ! Yes the game is missing a few thing to at least tell you how food and upgrades works exactly. But to simplify, you lose early because the food count decreased to 0. Food decreases with how many upgrades you have on all of your buildings and the only way to make it increase is to place a farm and upgrade it. Thanks for playing the game still !
