Alright, thx!
I've DM'd you on X π
Hi and thx for your review! π
I joined your stream while you were playing and thought it was a bit... chaotic π
Especially when you started the race without getting on the chair first! But this gave me the idea to add an indicator that's pointing to the next available chair, so you know at a beginning of a race where to go. π
The 2-Player-Mode is only local split-screen. That's why you couldn't get it running over network/Internet. ππ
This game is far from being finished and every stream/feedback helps to make it better!
Hi and thx so much for revisiting CHAIR Champions! π
Some comments from my side:
- I had a few more complaints about the 'easy' difficulty not being easy. What everyone telling me that has in common: They aren't playing much racing games. That's why I added another, easier difficulty: casual π
Besides that, I have worked quite a bit on the AI behaviour for this update and will also continue to do so in for future updates.
- The character selection screen needs definitely an overhaul! I don't know if I can fit all (present & future) characters on one screen though. That's why I added pages. However, I think it might get better (especially for 2 players), when both can 'lock' their selection with the use-key instead of just not moving anymore. π€
- I already noticed that the position label will tell you that you're last right before you pass the finish line. I'll have to investigate that further but it should not affect your actual placement when you finish very close before an opponent. ππ
- I have also tweaked the chair behaviours and balanced them so that it's also possible to win against the Home Racer when you choose The Boss! However, the chairs are much more responsive when they have a higher acceleration: The Ninja and McFly are easy to maneuver, while the standard desk chair and Turbo Toilet are a little less responsive and the Home Racer and The Boss are the hardest to control.
Thx again for playing! It was fun watching you two discover the improved bumping mechanics! And yes, please use it to your advantage! Experiment with it π
Also thank you for your appreciation of matching the music/sounds with the art style ππ I really payed attention to these details.
Ah, I thought it was the web build. Thx for the clarification π
I reviewed the code today and fixed at least the part where it gets back to windowed when you return to the title! (Along with a few other bugs) βοΈ
I removed the overlay because it interfered with the fullscreen option π you can also press F12 or 0 (zero) to toggle it on or off.
Thx again for playing and helping out π
Here's the latest change log:
This clicker game provides fun for quite some time!
The skins and updates can all be unlocked by playing it and there are global online ladders to compete against all Android/iOS players! (Although the top spot on the Android ladder is impossible to reach! This guy must have left his phone open on Auto-click for a whole day or so π )
Thanks a lot for playing and die the feedback! π
The "grab a chair" part is primarily there to make you aware that you can also leave the chair and run around without (there are some Easter eggs that you can activate on each track). It should also be a funny little "rumble for the chairs" before the actual race starts π
And no, you get the chair you choose before the race. That's why you see all chairs shuffling through when there's no one sitting on them.
And I got a question regarding the window mode: how did you set the full screen? Through the bottom right overlay button (when playing the browser version) or the in-game button in the title menu? I will have a look into that. Thx for making me aware of this bug.
Thanks a lot for playing and your constructive feedback!
Yes, the new cover art has been added as one of the last things before release and I agree that it needs some adjustment - and probably also the UI layout. As the internal resolution is just 320x180 it's a little challenging though to shrink the buttons, without looking fractured. I see what I can do π
There is already a sound volume option directly on the title screen: you can see "volume:" and a left & right arrow to change the volume from 0 to 100% in 10%-steps above the "Full screen" option and the animations showing the controls....
Maybe I will also add volume options to the pause menu with one of the next updates π€
Yes, a mini map is still on the agenda but wasn't a priority until now. I wanted to get the racing mode working first and until then display the direction indicators - I also added the new "wrong direction" indicator which shows you that you're going in the wrong direction during a race. I will add them for the time attack mode as well!
More changes and new features are planned for the future and your feedback helped shaping them ππ
Thanks again and until next time π
Robert
Oh dang!
Well, I was already aware of some "invisible" enemies in the tutorial but now I checked and also encountered the "invisible & undefeatable" enemy type π
I'll have a look for the next update. Thx for pointing that out! π
(P.S.: The version doesn't matter here π)
Did you try to push the spawn button several times? You just need to kill 1 enemy in the tutorial to be able to advance...
Hahaha π it's so much fun watching others to get away from a fight with only 1 heart left - just to die because they stepped on a spike trap shortly after π
However, I already nerfed them. Originally, they were active the whole time while the player was around, not only once per second π
There is a huge secret area in Central Rye and occasionally 1-2 secret areas in each level of The Forlorn Caves. You'll see a message when you find one...
If you pet the dog a few times in a row, the necromancer will give you discounts (yes, more than one π) on the revive costs π
Was the necromancer petted, too? π€
Hi and thx for your honesty ππ
It seems that your "someone else" could beat the game. Great! Did this person have anything to say about the game? Were there any secrets found? Did this person die? If yes, was the dog being pet?π
And yes, I admit it's quite a challenge - but I think as soon as you get more into the mechanics it gets a little easier π
Ah, I see π
Yeah, I tweaked the attack/combat part until it felt good - at last, it's a Hack'n'Slash, so combat must feel good, right?π
And the freezing bug is now what gone πͺπ€
And yes, hits are supposed to hurt π but you can also find hearts in the wild π
Also, there is a pretty big secret area in Central Rye... With lots of enemies and breakable objects π... The entrance is well-hidden but yet easy to spot, if you know where to look π΅οΈ
Hi and thx for your review! π
I just fixed the "attack with mouse not working" bug with version 0.6.1.6 - I think it was the same in the other levels, except in the Goblin King's Throne Room...
What was your highest combo? Did you find any secret areas? Could you get to the Minotaur and defeat him? Did you get to the Forlorn Caves?
Thanks a lot for the reply!
The early Zelda games were indeed an inspiration πβοΈ
And thx for the bug report, too! I also randomly stumbled over the "freeze" bug - and always when I was spamming the "attack" button - but I couldn't figure it out yet.
However, I think I found the root cause now and can possibly fix it in the next update. π
Apart from the occasional freezes, was there anything else that wasn't well with the controls?
How far did you get in the game? Did you find and kill the Minotaur? Could you even get to the Goblin King? π Have you found any secret areas?
Thank you very much for playing!
It was much fun to watch you two - and helped a lot to hunt down remaining bugs ;)
Speaking of which: The latest version 0.2.0.5b has all found bugs (and more!) fixed, e.g. there won't be a game over screen anymore if one of the players runs out of energy, so you two can finish the race together :)
Thank you so much for playing and leaving this review! π
I'm happy that you like the overall style π
I'm trying to answer your questions now π
The "Wheel Shield'" power up protects you from the carpets' & puddles' effects.
The energy, shown by the blue energy bar at the bottom, is like your stamina that depletes when you move. It doesn't deplete fast on easy difficulty but has more influence on normal and hard difficulty modes! You get a slow down when it's down to 0 until you can refill it.
There will be more power ups soon which you then can activate through another button!
So, what's with getting off the chairs? I have added some intractable objects across the tracks, like the pool you can swim in, the fast food restaurant where you can order food or the couch where you can accompany a sad person... You can use them when getting off the chair and most will give you back energy. One of the upcoming power ups can throw you or your opponents respectively off the chair, too... I'll add more reasons to get off the chair in future updates.
I know that there are still some UI bugs with controllers and will target them with the next updates π
Thx again!
Here are the secret codes, if anyone wants to try them π
In the title menu:
biggusdickus for the 'Swinger's Club' mode (everyone is naked)
bigdaddywheels for unlocking the "Big Chair Mode" option in the options menu
In the character selection menu:
robert (P1) and zloumoe (P2) for me as a character
cthulhu (P1) and fhtagn (P2) for Cthulhu as a character
valeria (P1) and priestess (P2) for Valeria the Pagan Priestess as a character
ninja (P1) and turtle (P2) for the 'Kung Fu Tortoise' π₯·π’
In the chair selection screen:
takeadump for the 'Turbo Toilet' as a chair π½π¨
Have fun!
Hi and thank you very much for taking the time to write this detailed feedback comment! π
I want to reply to the points you've criticized:
However, I don't want to punish players that are good by making the race (much) easier for the others. That's why there's also no rubber banding π
I'm happy that you've enjoyed the other parts of the game. And yes, I'm currently working on a big content update with more chairs to choose from, the 5th track (maybe also a 6th "tutorial" track), a new secret character and (if I'll manage to get it running) an actual race mode! π
Stay tuned!
Thank you very much for the praise and constructive criticism! ππ
In fact, I'm planning on adding customizable controls with one of the next versions. I've chosen the arrow keys for player 1 because of the people that have an AZERTY-layout keyboard, so most can at least play alone. However, it's also playable with a controller - for both players, each one can use a controller π
And there will also be a tutorial level which shows & explains everything.
Thanks for playing!
Cheers π»
This goes out to everyone who wants to try out and/or stream Chair Racing Simulator!
Try the following secret codes:
Type biggusdickus in the title for the 'Swinger's Club mode' (everyone will be naked).
Type robert, cthulhu or valeria in the character selection screen to play as a secret character.
Have fun and let me know what's you liked and what not ππ
Cheers π»
Great, thx for the suggestions!π
In fact, a race mode - and later, also a championship mode - are already in planning and I've also started working on the race logic! It will probably be added with the update after the next one! I've also planned an "elimination" mode and more - I just need a little time to implement everything π
But first, there will be another track and more chairs to choose from!
As for the "rubber-banding": I'm aware of this mechanic but am honestly not a big fan... It kinda feels like betrayal: bad players get fooled into thinking they are not that bad, whereas good players get punished with suddenly faster AI opponents. One of the main inspirations for this game are the Micro Machines games which didn't have rubber-banding and where you had to learn the courses to be able to beat the AI... So I'll rather work a little on the difficulty of the AI than to add rubber-banding π
Hi and thanks a lot for playing and the great feedback I got from your comment, as well as from your stream! π€―ππ
I'm indeed working on more content right now: Next update will have adjusted AI opponents, 5 new chairs with different driving behaviours, a new track (5th track "Anthony's Home) and a new secret character!
Btw: you can enter 'biggusdickus' in the title menu for a "Swinger's Club mode" πβ₯οΈ
And in the character selection menu, enter "robert", "cthulhu" or "valeria" to play as one of the secret characters π
I also want to enable the players to customize the controls as I know that the current fixed setup isn't optimal. But you can also play with a controller already!
I might take online play into consideration for a later update as I would need to learn how this could be realized first... But I'll really keep that in mind as I also know that this could be very entertaining as an online game - and your viewers seem to have the same opinion π
Send my thanks and appreciation also to ILYA and mayshing ππ»π
