Fantastic little game! Really reminds me of most of Mike Klubnika's games (that aren't Buckshot Roulette), and that's a huge compliment. Really like the core gameplay loop as well. If you expanded this into a full game, I'd absolutely pay for it.

Absolutely stumped on how to get any other endings though. Everybody posting videos got the same one I did, and I can't find anything to do differently between attempts.

Update: I got the escaped ending as well as the squid ending, but beyond that I can't think of anything to do that could be done differently.

The game will be great no matter what the monster looks like (considering it's a shape shifter and all) and I still love the premise and atmosphere. I will absolutely play the new demo and full game once it launches so no worries there.

I made a discussion about the monster design where I go into more details on the Steam Discussion forums for the game. I invited others to talk about their feelings of the old vs new design and linked to this demo, but so far no other comments yet. I did see about 2-3 comments on Alpha Beta Gamer's new demo video that were talking about liking the old monster design better and they had about 6 upvotes each. I'm eager to see what others have to say about it as well.

Good luck with the game no matter what you decide, it's your game after all :) I'll play it no matter which monster it has and suggested some ideas to use *both* in the Steam Discussion thread. Thanks for taking the time to get back to me!

I encourage others to provide their thoughts on the old vs new monster here as well as on the Steam Discussion thread here:

You should change the monster back to the suit guy. The new generic 'scary gown The Ring woman' isn't nearly as intimidating.

Saw this demo over a year ago and fell in love with the game, especially the implications of the giant chain! Hope development is going well and the game can be as good as you expect it to be! Keep up the hard work!

Linux version doesn't work on Steam Deck (desktop mode, Arch Linux based). Extracted to a folder, attempt to launch "NES_Linux.x86" and nothing happens at all, no error message, nothing pops up, just sits there like nothing was clicked.

Windows version works through Proton though:
Extract game to desired folder
Add NES.exe to Steam Library as a shortcut
Right click game in Steam library > properties > compatibility
Check the box "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"

Any version of Protonshould work but if it doesn't, try other versions.

Saw CJU Games play the demo of this and the giant chain being pulled into the ocean is what sold it for me. All the unanswered questions behind such a contraption, what it could be containing, is so intriguing to me. Confused me when I saw the name was changed from The Keeper to The Pale but I finally found the right page.

Love the game concept, you can really see how this lead into The Other Side! I agree with Raging Fails that the physics are clunky and a little confusing. I didn't realize I had to press E to put things in at first. Really enjoyed playing through most of your games tonight, and I'm leaving a follow to see what you do next!

I noticed a bug, not sure if you wanna patch this or not, but I found that you can cut the money with the cutting drawer open. You can still pull the lever with it open and the money still gets cut if you "cut" it while the drawer is open.

Beat the game and I really enjoyed it, but I'm confused on one aspect. I managed to beat the game without using the phone at all. I solved the bookcase puzzle by sheer dumb luck and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the phone puzzling being skipped.

Fantastic little game! I really liked the story of it, very surprised by the twist at the end! Really loved how the "good" ending gave new meaning to the "bad" ending.

Played this for a horror game night on my Discord and I absolutely loved it! The surreal world, the storytelling, all the endings, the humor all of it, I loved every aspect of it, especially the art style. I also enjoyed the way that the drugs were portrayed in this, not inherently negative but also not glorifying them as well. Really hope to see a sequel to this world eventually!

New levels when?

Loved the game but almost wish the horror came from the calls you received instead of the monster itself. I enjoyed the changing environments "Liar" and such popping up various places, but the actual monster itself seemed out of place. Hope you do more with this concept and maybe make a full game dedicated to the horrors of police dispatch.

Nope, failed every time and we were trying for about 20 minutes straight. All my friends in the US (east coast) could join us no problem, but my German friend couldn't connect no matter what. German friend hosted and none of us in the US could find his game either. Kept saying the game doesn't exist for whoever was trying to join. Appreciate the reply though. Game was fun even though we had to play without a man.

Does the online user server regions, and if so can you change them? My girlfriend can join my game find but my friend in Germany can't join our game and we can't join his. We're in the US if that matters.

Avast is stopping the download saying it's a security hazard.
