Hello freshfries!
Fixing bugs are fine, adding new content past bug fixes is not until after the judging period concludes!
Hi FabCho,
Make sure to check out the #looking-for-collab and the #holiday-gamejam-discussion channels on the Core Creators Discord as well!
Hello jammers, and happy holidays!
We hope you're as excited as we are to get this Jam started! As we count down the final hours until the theme reveal, we wanted to provide a update from Core Games!
In addition to the $10,000 in prizes offered by Global Game Jam, Core Games is happy to announce that they will be adding an additional $10,000!
After the conclusion of the Jam, Core Games will be handing out four Excellence Awards of $2,000 and four Achievement Awards of $500 to the Core-created submissions that stand out as particularly awesome to the Core Games team!
Only 24 hours until the Holiday Jam begins! We can't wait to see all of you there!
Great question!
You can check out our documentation pages on Collaboration in Core and using GitHub with Core for collaboration! Keep an eye out on the itch page for more opportunities to learn about this features in the coming days!
Hello V-rabbit!
Thanks for asking! For now, we ask that our Hackathon submitters keep the game as close to as it was during the original submission for the next few days. If it's minor bug fixes and changes to the game page or description then sure, but since we are actively in the process of looking through entries, please refrain from content updates and major reworks.
That being said after we finish announcing the winners and officially "wrap" the Hackathon, we encourage everyone to keep working on their projects!
Hi Ataro!
It's awesome to hear that you had a good experience; we're so glad! The best part of any event like this is the experience and the development journey; we always like to think that the best jams are the ones that you walk away from having learned something!
That being said, we'd still love to see your game in Core! Keep up the hard work, and feel free to let us know on the Core Creator Discord when it's ready!
Howdy Hackathon!
We hope you're having a great time making your game! With our Hackathon now well underway, we want to invite all of you to our second Core workshop and 1st Hackathon Office Hours Session! Our amazing educational expert Slinkous will be giving a workshop on the Core Live Twitch all about introductory scripting and animation! Afterwards, our Core Creator Hub Discord will be hosting a live office hours session, where you can hop in and ask Slinkous themselves any questions you might have about your project!

Hi SamTech!
Sorry to hear that you're running into that problem. In cases like this, asking around on either our Core Creator Discord or submitting a help request at our Core Help Center are both great places where you can get some troubleshooting advice!
Hi SamTech!
While Core does not currently support working within the same project in the same workspace, there are multiple methods Core creators have found to work together on projects. Our "Collaboration in Core" Documentation Page covers many of these methods!
Yes! As long as you are 13 or older and (in the event that your entry wins) can provide proof of your enrollment (ie, a report card, student id, etc). In fact, submitting an entry as a middle school (or junior high), high school, or first-year college student makes you eligible for one of four Core Rising Talents Awards; a prizing category exclusive to our underclassmen participants!
As we come to the end of the GGJ + Core Game Jam, we want to thank all of you! Your participation across both the itch.io page, conversations across Discord, and passion for games have been incredible to watch! Over 500 of you joined in to make this jam something truly special!
From beginning to end, this jam has been about collaboration rather than competition, and as such, we’ve chosen not to use a point or grade scale for submitted entries. That being said, we want to celebrate all of the hard work we’ve seen over the course of this event. From Today (7 October 2020) through 18 October 2020, we will be keeping a close eye on the plays and like counts of all Core-made submissions to the Jam, afterwards, The team at Manticore Games will be presenting the top three highest-played games during this time period* with special community prizes:
First Place: $1000
Second Place: $750
Third Place: $250
Remember: the more you can share your game, the more it can be played! Make sure to show off your game on our Core Discord or other social media platforms so people can see and have a chance to play your amazing projects! We can’t wait to play all of your incredible submissions, and we hope you’re excited to see and play the hard work of all your fellow jammers as well!
*Note: Only plays acquired during the period of 7-18 October 2020 will be tallied. Any previously acquired plays will not be considered.
Hi Mohey,
For this jam the primary purpose is to have fun and make great games! Especially since we want to make sure that this is a fun, beginner-friendly challenge, we want to emphasis collaboration and experimentation instead of competition. For that reason, ratings are not a component of this jam.
Hope this helps answer the question!
Welcome to the official kick-off of the GGJ + Core Game Jam! We’re happy you’re here and hope you’re excited to get started! Without further ado, we are proud to announce the official theme along with our jam kickoff video!

Dedicated Discord channels on both the Global Game Jam Discord and the Core Hub Discord are open and available for discussion, questions, collaboration, and even some last-minute team making! Remember, jam submissions don’t close until October 7th, 2020 @ 12:00 AM PDT, so there’s still plenty of time to jump in and start jamming!
We’re incredibly excited to see what amazing work all 400+ jammers will produce.
Hi Folks,
Hope everyone's excited for the Jam! We wanted to provide some additional links and resources that might be helpful for your jamming experience, check them out below! Most of these links can be found through our "Welcome to Core" Creator Guide as well!
Of course, our Core Hub Discord and "Welcome to Core" Creator Guide are also phenomenal resources as well, so be sure to check those out to learn more!
Happy Jamming!
Hey there!
If you're starting off in Core, a great place to start is our documentation page HERE which has a lot of tutorials on both using the editor as well as introductory scripting in Lua, the language Core uses for scripting. If videos are more helpful for you , also check out the Core Games YouTube Channel which has a lot of video tutorials on the program created by Manticore staff!
If the information on the documentation hub doesn't solve the issue, our community on the Core Hub Discord has a very active user base of Core creators and moderators who can help you with learning the ropes of the Core Editor as well!
Check out our Twitch channel live on Wednesday, August 12th, at 11 AM PDT for the live reveal of the winners! Hope to see you there :)
