Basic64JS is a Commodore 64 Basic emulator with extras.
Play with Commodore 64 basic, but in an easy way. Share your code by creating a link. Play with extended commands, to get more out of it.
It is fully free, and plays in the browser.

This update allows for Commodore64 native PRG files with basic programs to directly being imported.
Note: There are some limitations still. If a line can't be imported normally, it will create an outcommented line of it. And warns you at the end of the import process.
Any feedback appreciated. Also I am happy to receive any tips where to find more PRG files to test this new feature with.
Happy Retro Coding :)
And if you like it, feel free to comment, or donate a coffee at:

Thank you for the kind words!
The music has been done by CRISPS, his channel can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/@CrispsCrispulent , there are some excellent tunes there :)
Hi!
The tile is starting to be functional. Also I started with a map editor. Also I have been adding the concept of a tilemap-project. What is a tilemap project you may ask? It is a single file in which you save both the tilesheet graphics, the metadata of the tilesheet and a single tile map that uses the tiles.
Screenshot for clarification.
And as always if you have any suggestions or requests, please leave a comment! Thank you and have a nice evening!
The demo disk is ready now. It includes a nice selection of newest and greatest games for the C64. I am happy to have SnakeEscape64 on it :)
The demos and games on it are: Paw Noir, Awesome Slam Sibs Infinite Demo V2, Escape Room, Lunar City, Kielbasa Empire Demo, and Snake Escape 64 Demo.
All this can be found through ZZap64's Patreon page.

Have fun!
Thanks! Ok, I need to figure out how to make it quicker on slower machines. But till then I think the difference seems to be the graphics cards, and windows version. I think it might be the slow graphics card on your older machine. Have you tried to run on Chrome on the older one, and both on Firefox and Chrome, you can enable / disable hardware acceleration. I find that depending on your hardware , the hardware acceleration helps or hinders the browser.
Hi GrymmJack!
Thanks for the feedback!
On my work machine I do not have this issue, response time maybe 70ms or so.
But I have seen it working very slowly on not so fast computers or browsers.
Could you tell me a bit more about your browser (which + version) and your operating system (Windows, Mac or Linux), and the type of hardware you are running it on. Desktop, Laptop or Tablet, also high end, or old / low end.
If you don't want to to disclose this, this I understand, but any information is appreciated, and gives me clues to what the minimum requirements for the game are. Also as a DM, if you don't want this information here in the chat!
The background here is, that Snake runs on B3, which has run fine so far on plenty of tested devices, but not all of them. I'll work on optimizing it, but also I want to publish what is the minimum requirements, so people do not get disapointed.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hi.
This is my first post on Itch.
I made a tiny game, more or less to test out a Basic interpreter which I made for the browser, and then some people thought the game itself was kinda fun to play. So I post it here. This is as retro as it gets. You can even press "escape" and list the game by typing LIST, as it was in the old days. Old school graphics (text mode only, PETSCII inspired). Old school sounds. (All sounds are synthetic).
To play: Use the keyboard.
And go here : https://cursorkeysretrogames.itch.io/b3-snake-escape
The story: Guide Simon the Snake through many rooms, and head for the exit. Catch stars, to get extra points, take keys to open doors. Eat pills to get short again(!). And do not forget the ever ticking timer.
Who can make it over 10.000 points? ( and not in Slow mo mode :) )
