I like the basic graphical style, but there was some weird error happening causing the little hands to never disappear, and the background items were sort of randomly spawning in and out making it quite frustrating to play. I think the basic mechanic of falling and avoiding things could use a couple extra ideas like powers or modifiers to make it more varied.
11/20/20 - The Beginning
What is Animask Enforcer?
Easier to show and tell, so here's a gameplay video from yesterday (11/19/20)
You play as a retail worker tasked with enforcing the mask rule by shooting masks onto all of the customers (animals) who are coming toward you. This game started as a way for me to learn Unity after doing a couple of tutorials, but the concept resonated when I posted a prototype on Reddit so I decided to put some real work into it. As you can see, it's developed a lot since then:
Rules of the Game
- Colliding with enemies or being too close to them (failure to keep physical distance) hurts the Player.
- Letting a customer pass without a mask raises the "Infection Level" of the store.
- If Infection Level reaches 10% of total customers, Game Over. The store must close.
- Losing all your hearts is game over.
- Each masked customer is worth $100.
- If you shoot a second mask at a masked customer (some spawn responsibly ;)) then you are fined $1000 for the damage in reputation to the store.
- You can jump to mask the birds and giraffes.
Plans
- The game is currently just one "endless mode" where you can go for a high score, and it's already a really fun casual game, but I want to work on level design and have some semblance of a story, so I'm working on "Arcade" mode which will be sort of like a campaign.
- i.e. Level one only has short animals (no birds or giraffes, no jumping required) while you get a feel for the character
- Levels will add challenges:
- Speed increase
- Number of customers/Required money totals
- Customers may swat the first mask away and need to get hit again
- Customers may furtively remove their mask after a few seconds if you mask them up too early
- Obstacles like rolling logs or shopping carts, swarms of bees in the air
- Light platforming levels where the ground is not all there, runner style.
