got a fix, unplugged the vr headset and it worked just fine.
Try unplugging any controllers or VR headsets you might have plugged in.
The buttons in the main menu function just fine, but the escape menu while playing or after finishing a level does NOT respond to my clicking. im playing with a VR headset and controller plugged in.
