Closing the game entirely and going back in to pick up the bell seems to have worked. Looks like others have run into picking up the instrument bug as well.

Very awesome port. When defeating the third level boss, once I go to pick up the bell it plays the tune, then sits forever with the light beams coming towards me. Animation plays, sound effects go, it's not locked. It just never finishes the teleport back to the beginning of the level. So I can quit... But it doesn't keep the bell.
