Thank you and nice to meet you (so to speak)! Occasionally pressing the right button by accident is a crucial, I have on happenstance managed to do this myself on a few occasions :P. Hopefully I'll have some more content out soon :)

Thanks very much for your feedback :)! Hopefully when I make a bigger game I can include your suggestion. That said, I could potentially add those features to this one if time allows... Thanks again :)

I feel you, I think because of the time it takes, a lot of games are (mostly) fun :P. It's inspiring to see that you implement so many features on your first game, very well done :)

Looks really kool and fun to play :)!

Cheers for the feedback! I'll change the description to only include two way left and right controls, that's a typo. I'm quite surprised it overheats your computer though, I haven't had any issues with players saying that it can't run. Do you mind if I ask what hardware your machine has?

Cheers :)!

Hey All!

I've released my first 'stepping stone' game Alpha Sky Primitive

The specific questions I'd like to know about the game are:

- How do you feel about the artwork/music?

- What do you think about the UI, could anything be improved and if so what?

- What are your thoughts on the gameplay, namely how fun it is, how difficult it is and does it offer re-playability - is there anything that could be improved?

- What do you think about this game in comparison to other games in the action/casual genre, is there something missing?

- Do you like the score system and how could this be improved to increase the games competitiveness if you were to change it if at all?

- Anything else?

My main internal developer questions at the moment are whether to:

- Keep developing the game into something substantial.

- Keep improving the game on a more maintenance level until it reaches the point where it's as good as it can be as a standalone title.

- Begin working on sequels or spiritual successors to this game.

- Abandon ship and start working on more small games.

- Start working on/resuming bigger projects.

Please feel free to answer any questions you like (it doesn't have to be all of them) or discuss anything else related :)

Cheers,

Rhys

Alpha Sky Primitive

Hi all!

My name is Rhys and I'm a part time indie game developer, currently developing games for Unity.

I've worked for a few small game development/software companies as a tech artist, programmer and occasionally a musician. Some of the more notable projects that I've worked on are Wales Interactive's: Master Reboot, Gravity Badgers and the trailer for Soul Axiom and Blind Sky Studio's: Mandagon - but I've been developing games since MUD's were popular :P.

My favourite things I've done game developer wise has been making silly music/voice acting.

Playing wise, I have a thing for text based games, the Sega glory days and anything competitive with a K/D or a scoreboard :/

Other hobbies include playing guitar/vocals in a metal band (black metal is my jam), painting, history/eastern philosophy and... Collecting more hobbies.

I'd love to mash up all the things I've mentioned above and make something really unique. Time is the enemy.

If anyone wants to chat about games/mostly anything else drop me a reply. This looks like a great community and I'm looking forward to getting involved in it :)

Cheers!

Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it :)!

Hi all!

I'm a former developer for Wales Interactive in the early days (Master Reboot, Gravity Badgers and the Soul Axiom trailer) as a tech artist /musician and I worked on the prototype to Blind Sky Studios (Mandagon & Biolith) as a level designer/programmer alongside some others. After some successes with a few of these titles (and failing a PhD somewhere in between :P) I once again took up the good fight along with a part time job and have resumed my life long love of game development by going more indie than ever - alone (mostly).

There have been more than a few gaps in my knowledge base that I've had to fill, the biggest lesson being that as a one man band, it's not quite as straight forward to release a successful Steam game as it has been working for bigger (but still pretty small) indie companies when it's just you with limited time/resources (who would have thought?). More than a few larger games have been worked on and left by the wayside when feature creep has overcome me, my design has had more holes in than a slice of Swiss cheese or my enthusiasm for a project has deflated when the magnitude of the task at hand has been realised after months of work with lack of progress and release. Scaling down projects when you've worked bigger has been a bitter pill to swallow but starting smaller and from the beginning has offered some fresh perspectives, some much needed skilling up and a solid leveller for any ego.

So without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to my first little title Alpha Sky Primitive - a casual/action game where you fly your rocket through space and avoid the incoming blocks. Although it's very simple (or primitive) in it's gameplay and art style, this little game has given me some much needed respite in knowing all that goes into getting a game onto Android/browsers from start to finish mostly alone, with the assistance of a work colleague for the music, because I work with a bunch of musicians and he's trying to fly solo too (also he's better than me).

Please feel to check out the game and offer any constructive criticism/thoughts you have (it's free on Itch), the image above should give you an indication of the vibe. This is a small stepping stone for me but an important and very much necessary one towards developing more innovative/bigger titles in the future. Thanks very much for your time if you've read this far, I'm looking forward to joining the community and hearing from anyone who wants to offer feedback or would just like to chat :)

Cheers,

Rhys
