I'm not sure why, but that appears to be the case. They still sorta post brief Update logs on the Subscribe Star page, but even those are a bit barebones. 

I put in $6.00 towards purchases on this game, not terribly enthused to drop another $10 to get a new iterative of the development phase.

 I find it odd you just can't pay the difference to "upgrade" if you got it on a sale before?
