I just build without saving it since the build would save to the project 

(also my project got corrupted for an unknown reason a while ago, I'm not sure if this method 100% works since idk what caused it to corrupt so let me know if this way helps)

I've also had this issue but i found a way to fix it . You have to build the project instead of saving it , this fixed the issue for me when i opened the project and didn't crash the editor or corrupt my files / assets (thought I should share)
