Really enjoyed playing through this one. I felt the game captured that Castlevania style of game play really well. The game could have benefited from sound effects, but I thought the overall presentation was very solid. I think the two things that really pushed it from good to great were the boots and the boss fight. The boots opened up a lot more possibilities and made the combat and platforming a lot more interesting. The boss fight was definitely my favourite part. I felt like the fight really made you take advantage of all the tools in your arsenal and I really enjoyed the fluid weaving between dodging, shooting and melee attacks.
Overall, great work!
Wow I really enjoyed this game! Can certainly feel the 'Slay the Spire' influence but I think this stands up by it's own accord as well. I enjoyed the many card combos in the game, and was having fun finding new cards and thinking of ways they could be added to my deck to make stronger and stronger combos. I thought the animations and effects in the game felt really great and once I realized what all the UI elements were, it was really easy to understand the game state at a glance. After I beat the boss I kept playing to clear the entire map out of enemies because I didn't want to stop playing yet. I also ended up playing through a second time with my teammate watching to show them the game.
The only negative I will say is that I wish the player and enemy sprites were bigger during the combat section of the game.
Overall, very impressed and I had a great time playing it. Nice job!
A kind and cosy game about listening to others.
Hazel the Plant Witch puts players in the shoes of Hazel, a brilliant techno witch who creates a special translating device to communicate with the plants in her village. When Hazel’s daughter, Rose, is about to leave the village, Hazel embarks on a cozy, narrative-driven quest to get her the perfect goodbye gift before she leaves home.
Hazel the Plant Witch got 1st place in the 36th GM48 game jam with the top score in innovation. Since the jam, we've worked hard to polish Hazel with new visuals, sound, and dialogue.
Vaxa Village is a floating island populated by plants -- and Hazel, a human witch! She talks to plants using her special translating device, which forms the game's unique dialogue mechanic: Players can "record" dialogue spoken by NPCs, and play back that recorded dialogue to respond to NPCs in turn. Listen carefully to a plant's stories to decide what dialogue to record, and what dialogue to respond with! Players can have fun progressing the main story, while completionists and plant-enthusiasts can take the time to discover over 250 lines of dialogue (with a special surprise for 100%)!
