This describes the exact issue I'm running into in OpenGL but don't have it on the XNA version.

When running out of stamina climbing or using the golden feather powerup the framerate drops to slide show (<1) and becomes completely unplayable. As soon as she falls or the powerup expires it goes back to normal. No issues with the normal version of the game but switched to OpenGL to support my USB controller.
